New to programming and unsure where to start? Look no further—the Novice stream focuses on Python, a versatile and beginner-friendly programming language where you can learn basic game development using the Pygame module. Guided by experienced mentors, you’ll be on your way to developing your hack in no time!
Confident in the basics, but still looking to expand your skill-set? That’s great! The Intermediate stream introduces Linux administration, basic networking, and Kotlin, a Java-compatible and general-purpose programming language used primarily for development. Take what you learn and build on your skills to create something amazing!
So you know what you’re doing—awesome! The Advanced stream covers topics ranging from web development and API usage to Firebase and Unity. Explore your interests and implement new technologies into your project for a chance to walk away with a category prize!

Any student in grade 7 to grade 12 can register to be a hacker. If you've graduated from high school, we welcome you to apply as a mentor!
Not at all — in fact, we encourage newcomers to come and participate in MasseyHacks. We’ll teach you the fundamentals of programming, tech essentials, and loads more!
You can go solo and create something by yourself, but we encourage you to form a team beforehand — everything's better with friends. Teams can have up to 4 members. Don't worry if you don't have a team at the event, as we will have a team formation event for hackers to find potential team members.
